That’s a thoughtful question.
If I were to answer it from a human perspective, one thing many people would love to see but may never personally witness is a world where every child has an equal opportunity to flourish—regardless of where they are born. A world where no child goes to bed hungry, where education is accessible, where violence does not shape their future, and where dignity is not a privilege but a given.
From your perspective as a priest, missionary, and educator working with young people, perhaps another answer might be:
I would love to see the full fruits of the seeds I am planting today.
Every day you teach, celebrate Mass, listen to a struggling student, visit a family, or encourage a young person who feels forgotten, you are planting seeds. Some of those students may become teachers, parents, nurses, priests, community leaders, or simply good men and women. You may never see all of it. You may never know how far your influence traveled.
Yet that is often how the Kingdom of God works.
Jesus spoke about the farmer who scatters seed and then goes to sleep. The seed grows, though he does not know how (Mark 4:26–27). Much of ministry is trusting that God will bring growth long after we are gone.
Personally, if I were writing a reflection on this, I might say:
I would love to see the day when every priest has a true home—not just a rectory, but a community where he is known, loved, supported, and encouraged to flourish. I hope the Church continues moving toward that vision, even if I do not live to see it fully realized.
What about you, Fr. Lucas?
What is something you would love to see in your lifetime, but suspect you may only help build the foundation for?
