We all have this friend in life called “Death”, who at the moment is forgotten for a while, for it’s been a while since he passed by. There are those who have him now as a close friend. If you haven’t met ‘death’ yet, be sure to get ready for him, for he surely will pass by you sooner or later. He will surely go for a ride with you, someone you know, or someone you love most.
He comes in the thunder and the lightning, and other times, he comes quietly like a sea breeze in the evening. He is Mr. Surprise. You can never predict how he will come. He can grab away those dear to us and we will never see their smile again, and other times, he can hold their hands and you see them disappear in the evening darkness. They go and go forever. Mr. Death runs things; things don’t run him; so just be sure he will not be affected by your noise.
We mourn the death of our loved ones with sorrow and distress. The pain we feel is known only to us and the feeling we may be feeling is not what the world sees. Not all those who depart from us leave us with good memories. Some memories are full of bitterness and pain, while others leave us with a well-packed life of regret.
No matter the pain of life that we go through, no matter the wounds inflicted on us by others, we should never allow ourselves to bleed over those who know nothing about our wounds. Let this question ring bells every day in our heart, mind, and especially our lips, “what legacy am I leaving behind?” Perhaps these bells can soften our thoughts, increase our understanding and calm our attitude. Maybe these bells will lead us to be more generous in words and actions. Maybe these bells will help us leave behind a legacy that will be worthwhile for generations to come.
When you die, what legacy do you want people to remember you by?
