I WANT TO BE BLACK
I am black but I was made white, I act white, I speak like a white
I don’t want to be roasted breadfruit though
I want to be roasted and so be it, black
Very black that you can see me in the dark, yes! That black
Once I go black I will not turn back to white
My society is too white that my way of thinking is whitish
I want to be black like Bob Marley
I want to be black that I sing black songs for black people
I want to be black like Bob, I want to play football bear foo with my trouser that I have turned into short pants
I want to be black like Bob, I want to eat black people food, yarm and banana, ChoCho and bitter leaves from the motherland, okra and peanut to make my back strong and therefore sing, “Get up stand up, stand up for your rights”
I want to be black like Nelson Mandela
Black that I mean to be black
Black like Mandela skin and yet full of the love for all humanity
Word and action made him a real black man, that is what I want to be black,
Despite the imprisonment and worse treatment, I want to be black
I want to be black like Nelson Mandela, that I can let go and let God

I want to be black like Mr and Mrs Barack Obama
So black that I can be the next president of a great nation
Black that I can be black leader of the humanity towards Love
Black black that I can convince myself “I can do it”
Black so black that I can convince others “we can do it”
I just want to be black and black so black that I am glowing
Black is beautiful, black is resilient I want to just be black, real and black
We are Jamaican, different colors one people, black people
