Don’t Shy, Don’t be Ashamed of your Story.

“Don’t shy from your story. Do not feel ashamed of your story” – Kaka Lucas

I have a strong believe that we all have a story to tell, story hidden in the safest parts of our hearts. Stories no one ever heard about. Only you, Yourself and You alone know about these stories. These stories I believe they build on each other and they are to be told and listened and respected. These stories must have made who you are today….they are the stair case to where you are and they can be jumpstart for someone else life. Tell that story. Bring the beauty hidden inside your heart.

We all have experiences in life that have left scars in our hearts. These stories may be disgusting, discouraging and even depressing depending with the angle you look them from. But I also believe these story they have a beautiful lining in them, lining that is shining bright and beautiful.

I am always amazed by the Japanese art-form called Kitsugi. It is ceramic form of art that I read about in a book I love and I am reading “Life is messy” by Matthew Kelly. He reminds the “Us” the generation of disposable culture, a generation that is drowning in illusion that life is not messy.

In Japanese capture unlike ours, they do not dispose broken vessels or bowls or cups when they are broken, artist gathers up all of them and glue them back together. What amazed me in reading this story is how they glue them. As you can tell after a plate is broken, it would be hard to get all pieces together and to even glue them would be hard to know which part goes where.

For Japanese they use mixed gold with the glue and glue each particle together until the vessel come back to its shape. It may not look exact as it was but just that it is back to its form makes it even more beautiful.

This is to remind “Us” that life is more than just being broken. It is so amazing how these people take their brokenness with pride. As Matthew states on his book, “They don’t try to hide the cracks. They own them, honor them, even accentuate them by making them golden. They celebrate the cracks as part of their story.” I believe they also do this by making the cracks visible.

This is a beautiful lesson for me and you, never to be shy of our story. No matter how the story is, no matter how it started or ended, tell it as it is, mark the cracks with gold glue, make it visible, honor them accentuate them make them golden and beautiful.

Own your story, be proud of it and step up. Just make sure you respect that story and teach others do the same. Never shy from your story. Never hide it. Tell it as it is.

    1. Thank you. I’m a seminarian and I know how it feels when my story is not listened and is ignored. I also have moments i appreciate after telling my story.
