FEED YOUR MIND WITH BEAUTY

In our house, I am well known as ‘the hungry man’. Each day, as it approaches two o’clock in the afternoon, I would walk from the office while calling out loudly to our house help, and she will sometimes join me by shouting in unison, “ME HUNGRY”. Today, I did my usual calling, but a thought slapped my mind so hard that I paused while climbing the stairs. As much as I feed my pot belly with nice food, what do I feed my mind and heart with?

Sometimes I wonder, …. if thinking was a job, I could be a millionaire by now. I am a Capricorn and Capricorns are known to be thinkers. I tend to overthink even things I have no control over.

As it is said, our thought life is very important. It is also said that our eyes are the doorway to our minds. The word of God affirms this: Matthew 6:22-24 reminds us that, “The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy, your whole body will be full of light….”

And Proverbs nails it all by stating that “above all else, guard your heart”. For everything you do flows from it…  Proverbs 4:23.

If we feed our minds with worry, fear, negativity, inflation, and bad news, we are sure to be friends with depression, for that is what your heart will keep in its store. Defeat will be the path we walk on and sleep will be a fairy tale we hear of.

On the other hand, when we choose to meditate on the goodness of God, when we make a constant choice to feed our mind with what is best, true, and all that is good, praise and songs of gratitude would burst from our hearts to …. our lips to …. the atmosphere. Sleep will be our friend as well as peace that no man can take from us.

Philippians 4:7-9 NIV. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.
