MAKING THE WORLD A BETTER PLACE

#Bloganuary Prompt 29: How am I changing the world?

“You can hug the world with your little acts of kindness” ~ kaka Lucas

Michael Jackson once sang a song and named it, “Heal the World”. What other way can someone change the world making it a better place than heal it. The world is wounded, it is still bleeding and some other wounds are getting infected. Just imagine that.

The lyrics of the first verse are so vivid you’ll want to read them and scribe them deep in your heart……….“Think about the generations and say that we wanna make it a better place for our children, and our children’s children, so that they, they, they know it’s a better world for them, and think if they can make it a better place.

I can’t think of other better way I changed the world than my 8 eight years as a missionary in two different countries and 6months in my own county. I shared my very life with the poor joyfully. Intentionally I choose to live simple life among simple people in one of the largest slams in Kampala – Uganda (kisenyi) and Kingston Jamaica. It is an experience I will never erase from my heart, my mind and my very being.

Living among Jamaican has taught me a lot. Golden spring was my turning point in life, and as much as I take pride having lived there for three years of my missionary life, I do not regret being among that community. A day that I will never forget to have made a big difference in the world was during one of the Mother’s Day. Before that I was I was a big advocate of building up healthy relationships between mothers and sons. I was also encouraging boys to bring  their mothers to church. So I took upon myself to challenge them with a gift. I remember I made 25 min-cakes and challenged each boy to come with their mothers to church. When they come, before mass was done, each one of them brought their mother in-front of the congregation, hold their mothers hand and tell them,”Mommy I love you”. It was emotional moment for me since I was far away from home for years. These boys were so happy to have done something for their mothers. Note that some of these boys gave hand in making these cakes..

How better way could I have changed the world than doing that. Up to date 6 years now, I am still connected with that community. One among those I natured there got married and I was invited in a very special ways. I know I can walk any hour of the day in that community and no one ask me anything.

Now I do change the world in a different way, especially by being there for the people. Healing is needed to make the world a better place. We all know the wold is messy, a lot is happening at the same time, staying on our little corner will not help anything, “When we isolate ourselves, we don’t cut ourselves off from the problem, we cut ourselves off from the solution” words from Matthew Kelly.

It is  dilemma we are all in, “The World is Messy” and there is nothing much to be done that making better what we can with what we have. Nothing that can be bought, taught or even achieve that will eradicate this messiness. Different from our generation that thinks by having the love of our life and having exact career we once dreamt off will help with how awful life is, that won’t help. There is one way I believe we all can start doing that can make the world a better place, my this year resolution, start HEALING. There is something you can tell yourself to make a better place, “Healing  is Possible for me”. There is something magically that can make the world a better place, start accepting being healing in yourself and in others. Mentally, physically, emotionally and even spiritually, accept the healing. And there is something we all can do to make the world a better place, “start talking Healing in yourself and other people”.
